Every month De Fabriek screens an international film with English subtitles. This black-and-white tragicomedy explores the tense relationship between Gerrie and his son Dick during their annual three-day reunion in Rotterdam, with the looming possibility that this could be Gerrie's last visit. An audience favorite at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2025.
The 68-year-old Gerrie from Rotterdam has been living for years with his second wife Rosa in the Algarve, but is still officially registered in the Netherlands. Gerrie, a former bus driver, is a COPD patient and travels to Rotterdam once a year for check-ups and other routine visits. During his stay, he lodges with his Cape Verdean stepdaughter and also reunites with his son Dick (45), who is at odds with himself and the rest of the world. Gerrie has been turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to his son’s issues for years. Dick always expects too much from the short reunion with his father and longs for quality time. This year, there’s a looming threat that it might be Gerrie’s last visit to the Netherlands.
